The June Boom has three rules:
- Exercise every day in June. I'll do at least 30 minutes of something every day.
- Start something you've been putting off. For me it's biking, but it can be anything.
- Be publicly accountable. I'll use my blog of course, but you can post on Facebook, tell a friend, or do anything else to keep yourself on track.
Two months ago I announced four spring training activities - softball, umpiring, interval training, and biking. The first two have been a success, and I at least did some interval training. But between the awful spring weather in Seattle and two boys in baseball, I never got my bike out.
My pledge is to exercise every day in June and post each day's activities on the sidebar. Lots of days it will be walking, but I'll also do intervals, stairs, and play sports with the kids. The biggie for me is getting back on the bike. I went out Saturday for the first time in six months and it felt like my legs were pushing through clam chowder. I'm banking on lots of June rides to be back in shape for a good summer of cycling.
How about you? What are you going to use the longest month of daylight to accomplish? Leave a comment with your plans and feel free to copy the June Boom badge for your blog.
P.S. Thanks for all of the great comments on my last post, What Do You Tell Your Kids? I think the consensus is that my message of "always stay in shape" is the right one, but what really matters is setting a good example through healthy eating and an active lifestyle.

It sounds like June is going to be a fantastic month for you. Where do you bike, and with whom do you ride? I can't wait to track your daily exercise!!
This challenge sounds like a great idea, so I'm in!!! Thanks for sharing.
Christina, great to have you on board. Since you asked...we have some great bike trails in the area. Many are hilly, which is a mixed blessing - really hard, but easy to get a good workout in a relatively short amount of time. Most have mountain views, too. I generally shy away from traffic, so it's all about the bike trails.
Mostly, I ride alone, but we're hoping to get the kids involved this summer. They both sized up to better bikes for distance. And my wife is doing a short triathlon, so I may do some bike training with her, too.
I am going to join you on this, why not! My plan is to run to the gym or walk to the gym or bike to the gym instead of driving!
Alan, Hi! your June boom challenge - I'm in! I am brand spanking new to blogging and trying to get mine set up today and losssssttttt. First things first, how do i take the june boom graphic and the requirements and get it to my blog page too? or is that not kosher? eeeekkk, I feel like I'm at the first day of preschool! Thank you, thank you.
I love this goal. Count me in. My exercise will be biking, walking, C25K, Praise Moves (yoga), and, maybe Wii Tennis/yoga.
Thanks, Alan.
Me too! I'm in!
Oh boy, Alan. Every single day??? OK, I'm up for the challenge, and it is a huge challenge for me. Yup. I'm going to do this. The weather has to improve sometime soon, doesn't it?
I'm doing this - what a great idea and thanks for the motivation!
Everyone so far, I'm loving the enthusiasm!
Allyson, to get the image, right click on it and save it to your computer. Then click the picture icon in Blogger and load the picture file from your computer.
That ought to work for Blogger on PCs. Maybe someone else could chime in on MACs.
wait, Shannon's doing a triathlon? Cool.
Hi Alan
I just found your blog and I love it! Looking forward to reading through your experiment properly, your plan seems very sensible and effective.
Hey Alan- If it is okay, I want in on this too :)
Cool idea! I'm in, Alan! Thanks.
I was wondering how you were going to ride your bike every day in this cold, wet weather. Now I understand that you will be walking for much of your exercise, and it makes a lot more sense for PNW people. You may be able to bike this weekend! The sun might come back. Maybe. Tomorrow is the big kickoff, and I'm going to go walk for 20 minutes. Even if it's raining.
I'm in - sounds like a good challenge and one that I am willing to meet - even with a very hectic June upon me.
Staying MOtivated MO
I'm in. I'll exercise everyday. I've been putting off the C25K and avoiding the fact that I STILL haven't finished. So, I'm going to do it.
I am in with one exception. I use Sunday as my rest day, but I will continue to exercise at least 30 on the other days, and most of the time at least 60. I am running a 10K on July 4th so this will keep me on track.
I have been putting off keeping track of what I eat, so I will log my food intake all through June.
I will continue to be accountable in my weekly blog.
Great challenge. Thanks Alan!
I am IN on this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's on like Donkey Kong!!!!!!!
Thanks, Alan! Thank you! I needed a good, swift kick-in-the-butt.
I'll be snatching up that badge for my blog too and linking it back to yours. :) Here's to more challengers and a lot of weight GONE in JUNE!!!!
Eh?!
Thanks so much for hosting this challenge. I'm in! I needed a good challenge right about now. =)
Alan, thanks for visiting my blog.
I find that skipping even one day of exercise or allowing myself one day of not eating right can snowball into weeks of laziness and binging.
Good job on your weight loss.
Excellent plan Alan. Excellent ideas. Keep it up and do the best that you can. I am proud of all that you've done and all the you're becoming.
Take care and have a blessed and awesome day
Hey Alan, I'm a bit late, but count me in! I need this...I've been putting off starting back to a dedicated walking program, AND I want to start riding my bike again. I've already walked today. Yay!
